Buckley Webcast: The CFPB and Add-On Products

The marketing, sale, and servicing of ancillary or “add-on” products remains an area of focus for the Consumer Protection Bureau (CFPB). CFPB scrutiny began with add-on products sold in connection with credit cards and is now expanding to other industries. Products that have drawn the attention of the CFPB include debt protection, identify theft monitoring, credit monitoring, and most recently vehicle service contracts and gap insurance policies.

Valerie Hletko, Jonice Gray Tucker, and Andrew Louis reviewed recent enforcement activity undertaken by the CFPB in the add-on product space. Their discussion focused on the general themes prevalent in the CFPB’s recent add-on product enforcement actions and will describe best practices for compliance.
