Jeremiah Buckley Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers

Buckley Sandler LLP is pleased to announce that Jeremiah S. Buckley is the latest attorney at the firm to receive honors from the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers (“ACCFSL” or “the College”), a professional organization dedicated to the improvement and enhancement of the skill and practice of consumer financial services law and the ethics of the profession. Mr. Buckley received the Senator William Proxmire Lifetime Achievement Award at the ACCFSL’s 2015 Annual Dinner on April 18. In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Buckley, who knew Senator Proxmire personally, provided some reflections on consumer financial services legislation sponsored by Senator Proxmire.

Recognized as “one of the deans of the bar” by his colleagues, Mr. Buckley, is the 15th recipient of the Senator William Proxmire Lifetime Achievement Award, which is granted periodically by the College to a person who has made significant contributions in the field of consumer financial services over that person’s career. At the award presentation, the College described Mr. Buckley as “a pioneer of the law of electronic delivery of financial services and a leading authority on electronic signatures and records,” as well as a teacher, mentor, and dedicated volunteer who works to advance the legal profession and opportunities for young lawyers.

Mr. Buckley has practiced law for 45 years, beginning as a public service agency attorney with Volunteers in Service to America in Detroit, later as Republican Staff Director of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, and still later as a founder of Buckley Sandler LLP. He has written two books and dozens of articles and has presented and lectured nationally and internationally on consumer financial services, mortgage banking and electronic records and signatures law. He has been chairman of the RESPA Subcommittee of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee, and Vice-Chancellor of the Exchequer Club of Washington DC. Mr. Buckley, who is also an ACCFLS Fellow, is the first Lifetime Achievement Award honoree from Buckley Sandler.
