Kathryn Goodman is an Associate in the Washington, DC office of Buckley Sandler LLP. Ms. Goodman’s practice focuses on the federal and state regulatory needs of financial services companies, including mortgage companies, consumer lenders, commercial lenders, and secondary market loan purchasers.
She advises clients on federal and state compliance requirements and licensing and transactions issues, with particular emphasis on Federal Housing Administration (FHA) compliance and risks associated with the False Claims Act (FCA). Ms. Goodman assists clients with matters before state regulatory agencies, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In addition, she provides strategic advice to help clients identify and secure nationwide federal and state approvals necessary to achieve operational goals.
Representative matters include:
- Assisting private equity firms with regulatory due diligence and acquisition of consumer financial services companies
- Providing licensing, regulatory, and compliance advice regarding the formation and operation of commercial lending businesses
- Responding to federal and state enforcement actions, including CFPB Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs)
- Assisting clients with audits by the Quality Assurance Division of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA)
- Assisting a client with an False Claims Act (FCA) investigation by DOJ and HUD’s Office of Inspector General
Prior to joining Buckley Sandler, Ms. Goodman was an analyst with Promontory Financial Group, working with compliance products related to Dodd-Frank and litigation-based needs of the financial services industry.
Ms. Goodman received her J.D. from American University in 2012, where she was a publications editor of the Legislation and Policy Brief. During law school, she interned for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of the Treasury, and the CFPB. Ms. Goodman received her B.A. from Georgetown University in 2008.
