STAGE Network Webinar: The Evolving Regulatory Environment for Virtual Currencies

This webinar examined how the emergence of virtual currencies as an alternative payment system has prompted reactions by regulators at both the federal and state level. It focused in part on the recently-established Emerging Payments Task Force of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) and featured a discussion of the Task Force's current and possible future activities.

The Task Force was established in February 2014 to study emerging changes in payment systems, and to determine their potential impact on consumer protection, state law, and both banks and non-bank entities chartered or licensed by the states. That charge places the Task Force on the forefront of examining the role that virtual currencies and other innovations will play in consumer financial transactions, and the policy choices that might result from its studies could have a significant impact on numerous actors in that space.

The discussion featured the views of Margaret C. Liu, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for the CSBS, and counsel familiar with the emerging impacts of virtual currencies on financial market participants.

When: Thursday, May 8 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm (ET)
