Urban Institute's Sunset Seminar V: Mortgage Servicing: Current State and Future Trends

Washington, DC

Jeffrey Naimon spoke at the Urban Institute's Sunset Seminar V on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. His panel was titled, "Mortgage Servicing: Current State and Future Trends."

Servicers, who play a pivotal role in the housing finance system, have undergone significant market, regulatory, and technological changes in recent years. Our panelists will address a series of questions about their current state and future trends, including: Where does the lack of uniformity across state and federal law, as well as GSE and FHA procedures, impede market performance? Are the capital and liquidity levels that have been discussed reasonable? What issues do the growth of non-bank servicers pose? What litigation concerns should servicers be wary of going forward? What is the real cost of servicing non-performing loans? Does the servicing compensation model need to be re-engineered, given the evolution within the sector over the previous decade?
